Today, the world is less funny. One of the greatest comedians of all time, George Carlin, died of heart failure this past Sunday. He was 71.I remember listening to tapes of his performances when I was in college. His comedy not only made you laugh but it also made you think. Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television" is a great example of this and such is now a funny part of our cultural psyche.
Back in 2002, a friend of mine and I drove to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS to try to catch one of his shows. We went there knowing that his show had sold out, but we went there anyway and hoped someone would cancel on their tickets. Unfortunately, no one cancelled and we ended up spending our money at the casino. We never did see George in person, but we did see his limo.
I had always planned on catching one of his shows if he came back around the south again. I guess that will never happen now.
We will miss you George Carlin.
