New Site Design
Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Well, I got tired of looking at the old site and decided it was time to do a redesign.

I've been yearning to do something a bit more fun and creative. At work, I'm trapped within the approved templates and scripts and working in them is not something that I would really consider fun. It's a very intense and tedious task that requires you to deal with a lot of "spaghetti code." Let's not even talk about the departmental politics that have to be always considered. Patience is not just a virtue at my workplace. It's a required skill.

So, whenever I have a chance to work on my own sites, I take it as an opportunity to dust off some of my web design skills that I don't usually always use at work (Such as my PhotoShop skills and JavaScript/VB scripting). The whole thing is quite a cathartic process.

With this version of my site, I decided that the monkey needed to wear some clothes, since he is supposed to be at work and someone who considers himself more evolved than the average monkey.

Blogging on the Patio
Sunday, October 26, 2008

The weather outside was too good to pass up so I decided to do my web surfing and blogging on the patio today. I just need to remind myself to buy some citronella candles to keep the bugs away.

Posting about Nothing
Friday, October 10, 2008

I just realize that it’s been a while since I posted anything on my blog. It’s not that I’ve been lazy. There’s just nothing really interesting happening around me lately except for the fact that I seem to be way to busy at work these days.

So, I decided to break the dry spell and post something even if it is to comment about not having anything interesting to post.

I did start reading a book that wasn’t a computer/programming manual which is a rarity by itself. I’m currently reading Orson Scott Card’s “Invasive Procedures.” I’m not exactly sure how to describe the story since I’m only a third ways into the book. I suppose I’ll post about that when I finish reading it. We’ll see.

At work, I’m swamped up to my eyeballs with having to “tween” a bunch of pictures for our web site of bariatric surgery patients to show how they progressively loose weight over time. It’s a tedious and boring task that makes me feel a lot of loathing towards myself for being pudgy and guilty for loving bacon a little too much.

The weather is supposed to be pretty good this weekend. I’m trying to decide if I want to spend my time on the beach or have a backyard barbecue or have a barbecue at the beach. Either way, I hope to not spend too much time in front of the computer screen this weekend.

Well, that’s enough babbling for now. I’ll post again if anything worthy of posting happens.

Using Blogger for Work
Thursday, August 28, 2008

There's a mad dash happening in my office to get ready for a possible hurricane hit.
I've been working all morning trying to come up with a way to be able to get information online to our employees and to the public if and when a hurricane does strike.

As a person who hopes for the best and plans for the worst, I decided that I wasn't going to stake our company's online employee communication plan on something I didn't feel was completely reliable. So, I decided to make a hurricane information web site and host it with Blogger.

By hosting the site with Blogger, I won't have to rely on our local web hosting provider to have our web site up and running the storm. I'm pretty sure they'll be more concerned about saving themselves and their properties than be worried if one of their client's web site is down.

As much as I have faith in capabilities of the hosting provider for my work company and their supposed 98% uptime promise, I always try to have a back up plan or go with a sure thing.

At the moment, Blogger seems a better bet than the local guys.

Photobucket Works!
Saturday, June 14, 2008

Well, it looks like Photobucket's photo sharing link works, but this doesn't solve the problem of not having a direct way of posting photos to my blog or even to Utterz. I guess that I'll be stuck doing old fashioned text-posts and voice-posts until I figure this out.

Byte-Monkey.com Unofficial Theme Song
Monday, June 09, 2008

With my recent iPod infatuation, I've been listening to a lot of different types of music. Some of these tunes have been non-mainstream yet pretty awesome.

Very recently, I've been turned on to the music of Jonathan Coulton (http://www.jonathancoulton.com/). All I can say is that his music is hillarious, imaginative, and worth the money if you decide to buy his work.

One of his songs titled, "Code Monkey," was pointed out by a good friend of mine as the perfect theme song to by personal blog at byte-monkey.com. Since she bought the song for me, I've decided to adopt the song as the official unofficial theme to the site.

Beer Helps To Focus
Sunday, May 18, 2008

I know it's late (or early 3:45?), but I needed to post something before I lost my train of thought.
So, my weekend festivities are somewhat over. I say 'somewhat' because I haven't decided whether to continue tomorrow having Monday being a work day and all. For the most part, I realize why I stopped going out. I usually burn too much of my money and drink a little too much than I should.

If I Twittered everything that happened so far, then the following list would be most of the entries. At some point my thumbs were inebriated so I couldn't text. But I would say it was fun. Some highlights for the curious:
  • Had the radio on my car fixed
  • Had my ipod integrated to my car
  • Had free dogs and burgers at a health fair
  • Had dinner and drinks at Crabs with my friend Rodney
  • Quickly toured the boardwalk
  • Took Rodney back to his place cuz the bloke doesn't drink (yes. weak. I know)
  • Got a call from some old friends from waaaay back.
  • Drove back to Pensacola beach to meet up with old buddies.
  • Second tour of the board walk.
  • Some drinking was involved.
  • Drunk cute girl grabs my non-existent ass. (either that or she was trying to get to my wallet)
  • More drinking was involved.
  • Discovering that I am louder than I sound in my head when I have had one too many: Priceless
  • Watched someone get arrested and decided it was a good time to wind down.
  • Sobered up a bit.
  • Drove home. Got sick.
  • Blogging to capture the moment and now crashing into bed.
  • Swearing to God that I won't do this again. Good times.

Blog Weirdness
Friday, May 16, 2008

Something strange happened to my blog. When I went to view the site this morning, it was missing a few posts. I have reposted everything and I'm hoping nothing crazy like that happens again.

The Monkey Returns!
Monday, May 05, 2008

After losing my blogging focus, the ByteMonkey is back on track. I hope to blog more often than before unless life gets in the way again. I may not voice post as much, but I promise to text at the very least.
