I'm a code monkey and I've been writing web code for over twelve years. People often think that because I work on the Web that I can fix their broken computers. Sure, I probably know how to fix them, but I would really rather not because I know that most people suck. MONKEYS RULE!
It's time for this monkey to perform a public service and educate everyone about Chinese food. Here's a clip from New York Times Reporter Jennifer 8. Lee's presentation about the origins of familiar Chinese-American dishes.
After briefly loitering around at UWF's Festival on the Green, the gang and I decided to grab some grub at Pensacola Beach. We started off with a plan to get some hot wings at Hooters, but somehow ended up going to Crabs Seafood Restaurant. To be honest, I can't really remember what made us change our minds but we ended up there somehow.
At the restaurant, I realized that of all the times I have been there I had never ordered crabs from Crabs. For years, I had been limiting myself to the appetizers or the fried seafood baskets. Well, I decided that I would fix this major oversight and ordered some crabs.
Now, one of my main character flaws is that I can get somewhat indecisive on things that are very similar. Often, I try to do a lot research when I have to deliberate on things. This time, I didn't have the luxury of knowing what kind of crab was good, so I opted for the Combo Crab Platter which had a little of Alaskan Snow Crab Clusters, King Crab Legs, Dungeness Crab from San Francisco. There was some coleslaw, boiled potatoes, and corn on the cob also thrown in there for good measure.
To say the least, it was very good meal. Although it was pricey at about $30, I felt it was worth every dime. I don't make a habit of spending that much when eating out, but I'm a firm believer in treating yourself every once in a while.
Remember that you only live once. Don't die with any regrets of not having tasted something. If it looks good. Why not treat yourself and give it a try!
I know that I live under a virtual rock and a lot things do get by me, but there was one thing that passed me by that I totally regret not noticing. This one thing is the portable microwave oven.
I guess I was just way too preoccupied with my work and with saving the Internet from itself that I totally missed humanity's need for such a device. All those times that I was working on clever scripts and writing code, I could have been spending it developing something to meet this obvious necessity. For this, I apologize to the world
How many times have I been driving around in my car and suddenly have a craving for fresh microwave popcorn? All the time!!!
Well a company named iCubed apparently noticed the need for this type of device and has stepped up to fill this big void in our lives by inventing the "iwavecube 2.0" portable microwave oven. They have even kept in theme with all the other portable personal devices that you now carry with you by offering them in an assortment of colors.
All in all, the only thing I can really say is "Wow!" We still haven't found a cure the common cold but we obviously can build portable food nukers because this was something that humanity could use. Visit http://www.iwavecube.com/ for more info about the device.
I hope that everyone is as stuffed as I am this Thanksgiving day. If not, I recommend crashing someone's dinner and scoring some turkey.
This year, my family did the whole traditional/classic Thanksgiving dinner. We had roast turkey, cornbread stuffing, yams, beets, cranberry sauce, green beans, mash potatoes and gravy. I wish I had the foresight to take a picture of the whole thing. It was truly a beautiful sight.
I'm at Books-A-Million right now trying to keep from dying of boredom. I'm using the free wi-fi that you get if you join their Millionaire's Club to surf the web for a bit and post this blog. Also, I really wanted to check on online order for a Sony Mylo COM-2 that placed yesterday at the Sony web site. It didn't look like it shipped out yesterday, so I'm hoping it goes out tomorrow or Monday.
Well, I think that's all I have for everyone. I'll post again soon.
On rare occasions, I do break down and go to McDonalds to get a Big Mac meal. I know it’s not good for me, but sometimes you just have live a little. Plus, I’ve been craving for one for about three weeks now. So when I went to get my Big Mac meal, I was pretty excited.
Well, my excitement was killed pretty quickly and replaced with anger and frustration. When I finally sat down to eat my sandwich at the McDonalds on 9th and Creighton Avenue, I was surprised to see that my Big Mac was lacking lettuce.
So, I went back up to the counter and cashier tell me that they are out of lettuce and they are so sorry about. They didn’t offer to give me a refund. They didn’t give me an alternative. They just knowingly served me an incomplete sandwich. Sure they apologized but they made no attempt to remedy the situation. When I asked for my money back, they ignored my request and replied that they had sent someone to get some lettuce.
The thing that pisses me off is the fact that this McDonald’s actually gave me an incomplete sandwich and expected me not to notice. Did they think I was blind?
Also, how the hell does a McDonald’s run out of lettuce? How incompetent can someone be not keep their restaurant stocked with the basic ingredients of the food that they serve? Lettuce is not some unique ingredient. It’s available at any grocery store. What’s even worse is the fact that this McDonald’s is located between a 24-hour Super Wal-Mart and a Winn-Dixie. They should’ve sent someone out there to get some lettuce before they finally ran out.
Selling me a Big Mac without lettuce is like selling me a car without seats. It’s unacceptable.
A little birdie told me that Carrabba's Italian grill is starting "Wine Wednesdays" in their Florida restaurants and also a wine naming contest starting in July.
Since there isn't much to do in Pensacola, I think this could be an interesting distraction in the middle of the week. Plus, this monkey is always down for some good spaghetti or veal marsala.
So, if you order a bottle of wine during "Wine Wednesdays," you'll get $10 off the wine when you order it with your meal. Looking back, I wish they had this last month. I would've probably saved a lot of money. Did I mention I like wine? I like wine. A LOT.
So go eat pasta, drink wine, and name a bottle of wine. (You might win a year's worth of Carrabba's dinner! Try to equate that to gasoline money. I know. Mind boggling).
If you're from Pensacola, let me know what you think of "Wine Wednesdays." I’ll be packing my camera whenever I go so expect some pics at my photoblog. (Too bad utterz still won’t accept my MMS or I’d be posting it as I go there).
Inspired by someone else's "sushi for lunch" posting, I decide to have sushi for lunch and post it here. This was the "Ichiban Sushi plate" from Ichiban in Pensacola, FL (http://ichibanpensacola.com/). The plate consists of: Chef's choice 10 pcs. nigiri and choice of dragon roll with soup or salad.
After much deliberation (and sake), I have come to the conclusion that to support my rice addiction I will only marry a woman if she knows how to work a rice cooker.
So ladies, head out to your favorite appliance store. Pick up a cheap rice cooker and start practicing. The key to my monkey heart is through a bowl of rice.
Well, it's another Sunday and we all know what that partly means: Laundry Day. It's a good thing too. The scent of cigarette smoke is lingering on the clothes I wore last night. So, I'll be doing this for a good part of the day.
I woke up this morning wanting tacos and I've decided that I'll be "running for the border" sometime today. Maybe after I'm done with laundry, I'll go to TacoBell and drive around town for a bit. This will give me an another excuse to listen to my music in my Ipod-powere car. I just have to remember not to be driving around for too long since the price of gasoline has making my wallet cry for a while now.
I don't have any tech calls this weekend so I'm relatively free to do what I want. So far, it's been a good weekend for me. I really believe that in order to keep yourself sane that you sometimes have to take some time to let go of all your problems and have a good time.
