New Target on Blue Angel Parkway!!!
Wednesday, March 04, 2009
Last Tuesday, I was invited to for "soft launch" of the new Target store on Blue Angel Parkway on the west side of Pensacola. The store officially has their grand opening on March 8 th, but Target opened the store up to employees and their friends and family. At the event, the Escambia High School band provided live music. Also, Yo the Balloon Man made balloon animals for the kid, sand a caricature artist made silly drawing of people. It was quite interesting to see a brand new store that hasn't been beaten up by the public. Everything looked picture perfect. The aisles were all fully stocked. You would've been hard-pressed to find an empty product slot or peg in the store. My camera phone was running low on memory, so I wasn't able to take as many pictures as I wanted, but here's a few that I manage to snap: A huge banner hanging in the grocery aisle! Refrigerated goods!
 The have fresh fruits!!!

Crazy Shooting at Miramar Beach, Florida
Friday, February 27, 2009
Last night psycho went nuts and shot a group of Chilean students at their town home apartment in Miramar Beach, FL. Two people were killed and three are in critical condition. Here's a link for more details: http://www.nwfdailynews.com/…dents.htmlMiramar Beach isn't that far away from Pensacola, and it freaks me out that something this horrible can happen so close to where I live. Northwest Florida is traditionally a quiet area (when it's not spring break or hurricane season) and stuff like this really unnerves us. My prayers are with the family victims. To have something bad happen to your loved ones who are literally thousands of miles away can be a difficult and frustrating experience. Hopefully, the US and Chilean governments can quickly coordinate and help these families out. Here's a link to the initial report about the shooting. It talks more about the shooter who apparently was an insane radical, anti-immigrant Republican Party supporter. Local Hospital Turns Pink
Friday, October 17, 2008
Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida is being lit up in pink at night as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
If you're a local and drive anywhere near Cordova Mall at night, then I'm pretty sure you've seen the massive hospital glowing in pink. If you haven't seen it, then I suggest taking a little drive about town at night and taking a look. I think it's pretty neat.

First 2008 Case of West Nile Virus in Escambia County
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
ESCAMBIA COUNTY (FL) – The Escambia County Health Department is issuing a Health Alert for West Nile virus following the report of the first adult case of West Nile Virus since 2006. Residents and visitors are urged to take the necessary precautions to avoid being bitten by an infected mosquito.
The 5Ds of Prevention - Dusk and Dawn: Do not go outdoors when mosquitoes are seeking blood during the twilight hours of dusk and at dawn.
- Dress: Wear clothing that covers most of your skin.
- DEET: When the potential exists for exposure to mosquitoes, repellents containing DEET are recommended. Check labels before using a product on infants and children. If an infant is too young to wear repellent and must be outdoors, a parent should place mosquito netting over the infant’s carrier. Picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus are other repellent options for individuals who cannot wear DEET.
- Drainage: Check around your home to rid the area of standing water, which is where mosquitoes can lay their eggs. Elimination of breeding sites is one of the keys to prevention.
- Screens: Make sure window and door screens are in good condition, without any tears or holes that allow mosquitoes to enter your home. Place screens on open windows.
Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites
- Clean out eaves, troughs and gutters.
- Remove old tires or drill holes in those used in playgrounds to drain.
- Turn over or remove empty plastic pots.
- Pick up all beverage containers and cups.
- Check tarps on boats or other equipment that may collect water.
- Pump out bilges on boats.
- Replace water in birdbaths and pet or other animal feeding dishes at least once a week.
- Change water in plant trays, including hanging plants, at least once a week.
- Remove vegetation or obstructions in drainage ditches that prevent the flow of water.
What is West Nile Virus?
West Nile virus is a potentially serious illness – about one in 150 people infected with WNV will develop severe illness.
The severe symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis. These symptoms may last several weeks, and neurological effects may be permanent.
Mild Symptoms in Some: Up to 20 percent of the people who become infected have symptoms such as fever, headache, and body aches, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes swollen lymph glands or a skin rash on the chest, stomach and back. Symptoms can last for as short as a few days, though even healthy people have become sick for several weeks.
No Symptoms in Most People: Approximately 80 percent of people (about 4 out of 5) who are infected with WNV will not show any symptoms at all.

Cordova Mall Food Court Sneak Preview
Saturday, August 23, 2008
Many of you who frequent Cordova Mall know that the food court has been under construction for quite some time. Today, I managed to sneak my camera phone and snap some pictures of the construction progress. From what I could see, there is still a lot of work to be done, but I think the final results will make everyone happy. I just hope they step up the construction work and they don't piss off too many people with having to deal with the current cramped eating area that they have been torturing people with. Tax Collector's Web site hacked
Sunday, July 13, 2008
According to the PNJ.com, The Escambia County Tax Collector's web site has become one of the latest victims of a global online defacement epidemic carried out through an SQL injection attack. As a result, the site was taken offline around 4PM yesterday afternoon. Prior to the site being taken down, visitors were greeted with the message: "Hacked by m0sted (Turkish) No War." The Tax Collector's office claims that no internal or sensitive material were compromised and that any information available on the site were already public information. The web site is expected to back online and operational by Monday. Here's a link to the PNJ article. (You can read it while it hasn't been archived. After that, the greedy bastards want you to pay for it.) Labels: local news, web site attacks

Baptist Hospital buys out West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Florida
Thursday, June 26, 2008
I just finished watching part of a televised press conference announcing that one of the local hospitals, Baptist Health Care, has announced the purchase one of their major competitors, West Florida Hospital. In Pensacola, Baptist Health Care, West Florida Hospital, and Sacred Heart Health System fought to be the people's choice for health care services. With this announcement from Baptist, it would seem that there will now only be two choices for medical services in the area. I feel for those who will find themselves redundant in this merger. Whenever large companies do this kind of thing, they always look at the big picture and never seem to concern themselves with what happens to the little people that work for them. I wish anyone that has found themselves seeking a new job good luck. For more about the buyout, click one: PNJ.com article or InWeekly.net ArticleLabels: local news
