Running Around
Wednesday, August 19, 2009
It's a good thing I'm wearing semi-comfortable shoes today. Out of the blue, I find myself running around trying to get other people's projects done. This would not be such a dreadful task if the projects were limited to working in front of a computer, but my luck hasn't been the same since that night I taunted a gypsy in an effort to lose weight. No. I'm having to run around the whole company complex and setting up non-interactive(yeah I know, lame) kiosks. Beyond the technical and meaningful tasks, I also need to pickup a large printed map from the otherside of the complex so that I can mount them into the kiosk. All in all, I didn't realize being a code monkey meant that I'd have to also be errand boy! Labels: work
On Books, Movies, and Commercials
Wednesday, March 18, 2009
For the last few weeks, a plot for a conspiracy story has been brewing in my head. Last night, I tried out my story idea with one of my friends. He told me that my story would probably make a good movie and that he was insterested in taking a stab at writing the screenplay for it. So, if you see a movie about hackers manipulating the stock market to destroy a country, check the credits and see if my name shows up. (I'm not going to post details about my story here since I know there are people out there who would steal it without thinking twice). For the mean time, I will work on writing it as a novel and see how that goes. Today at work, I pitched my idea for our company's image commercial. So far, the boss thinks there's potential and doesn't hate it. Other people that I soft-pitched too seem receptive and gave positive comments, but I wasn't sure if they were just trying to be nice. So now, it goes up to the big boss for his critique. If it survives that gauntlet and it gets approved for production, then I may actually have just put together my first television commercial. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it goes through with little revision. Lately, my brain has been buzzing with way too many ideas. I've been having a hard time falling asleep and I usually end up writing or drawing things in my notebook, or playing puzzle-type video games. I have also been refurbishing a couple of old video game consoles for fun, which usually leads me to lose track of time and go on without much sleep. So something is definately making my brain synapses go into over drive. Whatever is going on, I just hope I don't burn out. Finally...the Weekend
Friday, August 29, 2008
After spending most of the week preparing for Hurricane Gustave at work, I am thankful that it's the weekend. The storm isn't due to hit until next week, so the weather for this weekend is supposed to be pretty nice. I guess it's just the calm before the storm. I'm supposed to spend part of tomorrow removing a computer virus from one of my friend's parent's computer. Hopefully, the exocism won't take all day long. I want to try to spend some time at the beach and try to wind down. My boss told me that he might call me into the office during the weekend if the storm turns towards Pensacola. I might be spending my weekend securing computers. I'm crossing my fingers that this doesn't happen. Labels: weather, work
Using Blogger for Work
Thursday, August 28, 2008
There's a mad dash happening in my office to get ready for a possible hurricane hit. I've been working all morning trying to come up with a way to be able to get information online to our employees and to the public if and when a hurricane does strike. As a person who hopes for the best and plans for the worst, I decided that I wasn't going to stake our company's online employee communication plan on something I didn't feel was completely reliable. So, I decided to make a hurricane information web site and host it with Blogger. By hosting the site with Blogger, I won't have to rely on our local web hosting provider to have our web site up and running the storm. I'm pretty sure they'll be more concerned about saving themselves and their properties than be worried if one of their client's web site is down. As much as I have faith in capabilities of the hosting provider for my work company and their supposed 98% uptime promise, I always try to have a back up plan or go with a sure thing. At the moment, Blogger seems a better bet than the local guys. Labels: blogging, hurricane prep, work
Missing the Beach
Monday, August 11, 2008
With today being my first day back from my vacation, it seemed so appropriate that it is raining outside my office window. The gloomy weather echoes how I feel at the moment -- depressed. Oh how I wish I was back laying on the beach, listening to the waves crash into the shoreline. Instead, I have to listen to MS Outlookâs bell going off every fifteen minutes about some impending deadline or meeting. I miss the smell of the ocean air, the salty taste of the ocean water, and the feeling of sand between my toes. *heavy sigh* Labels: Things I Hate, work
Goodnight Folks
Sunday, June 29, 2008
It's past midnight and I have decided that I will do no more web coding and/or debugging for the evening. I'm beyond the definition of tired. My brain is " M.I.A."," K.I.A.", and " D.O.A." If I keep going, I will start to seriously hate my job and my life, and that would be unfortunate. Labels: work
I Hate Macs
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Apple markets their Macintosh computers as being stable systems compared to PCs. Well, I just had one of the mac computers die on me at work. It seems as though the all mighty and fancy mac hard drive has died on the machine which was only used for light print design jobs. (It had Photoshop and InDesign on it). There was nothing on the system that was tasking it so much that the drive would die. So, don't believe the marketing hype. Be smart. Be frugal. Buy a PC.
